On the first day of Navarathri, meaning nine nights, we worship the Goddess in the form of Parvati, the daughter of the Himalayas. Her husband is Lord Shiva. Together, they have two sons: Ganesha and Karthikeya. Parvati is the reincarnation of Sati, who jumped in the sacrificial fire of Daksha to save herself and her husband Lord Shiva from humiliation. The colour orange signifies health, wealth and power.
