About the Concept – DASHAVATAR
DASHAVATAR is a contemporary Kathak magnum opus inspired by the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu from ancient Indian Puranic tradition. Reimagined through a modern lens, the production explores why these avatars manifested throughout time and how their timeless qualities — protection, courage, healing, balance, compassion, and renewal — remain deeply relevant in today’s world.
Rather than simply retelling mythology, DASHAVATAR invites audiences to reflect inwardly and recognise the “avatar” within themselves — the responsibility each individual carries to heal, protect, and restore harmony in society. Rooted in Kathak yet shaped through the innovative Pali Chandra Technique, the performance blends Sanskrit poetry, Carnatic and Hindustani music, yoga, Tai Chi, martial arts, and contemporary movement into a visually immersive and emotionally transformative experience.
A defining feature of the production is its unique musical architecture: each avatar is represented through its own raga and tala, allowing rhythm, melody, and movement to merge seamlessly into a powerful artistic journey of mythology, humanity, and transformation.
